​Citizenship

To be eligible to become a Canadian citizen, you must:​

• have a Permanent Resident (PR) status in Canada
• have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years
• filed your tax in the three tax years
• Pass a Citizenship exam
• prove your language skills
• Use the Residency Calculator to calculate your physical prsence in Canada

There are situations that can prevent you from becoming a Canadian citizen.

• If you are under review for immigration or fraud reasons
• If you are under a removal order
• You don’t need a valid PR card to apply for citizenship. You can still apply with an expired PR card.
