Citizenship
To be eligible to become a Canadian citizen, you must:
- have a Permanent Resident (PR) status in Canada
- have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years
- filed your tax in the three tax years
- Pass a Citizenship exam
- prove your language skills
- Use the Residency Calculator to calculate your physical prsence in Canada
There are situations that can prevent you from becoming a Canadian citizen.
- If you are under review for immigration or fraud reasons
- If you are under a removal order
- You don’t need a valid PR card to apply for citizenship. You can still apply with an expired PR card.
