Federal Skilled Trades PrograM

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade. If you are a qualified worker in one of the specific skilled trades, you may be eligible to make an application through Express Entry.

Minimum Requirements:
  • ​Plan to live outside of Quebec;
  • Meet the minimum language requirements (CLB 5 speaking and listening, CLB 4 for reading and writing);
  • Have at least 2 years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time experience) in a skilled trade within the last 5 years before you apply;
  • Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), except for needing a certificate of qualification, and
  •  Have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year OR a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
  • There is no minimum education requirement for this program. However, to be awarded the highest number of possible points for an Express Entry application candidates must have either a secondary school or post-secondary certificate. 
  • Proof of funds to show that you have enough money for you and your family to settle in Canada - Unless you are currently working in Canada or have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada
